Comptroller

The Comptroller is responsible to direct the financial functions of the various New Samaritan Corporate entities in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with federal, state and local government laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards and organization policies, procedures and rules. The Comptroller maintains the means (systems and personnel) of providing accurate and timely financial information to senior management and the Board of Directors to facilitate the discharging of their fiduciary responsibilities. This position is also responsible for the business office operations of Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, including oversight of accounts receivable and payable, as well as, hands-on involvement with general ledger and related reconciliations and financial reporting. The Comptroller also serves as the contact liaison with contracted support service vendors (i.e. Banking, IT, Phone System).

CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITIES

·    Participate in the development of the Corporation’s strategic plans and programs with the President/CEO, members of the executive staff, and Board of Directors

  • Provide meaningful, timely, and accurate financial reporting and analyses to ensure  understanding of the Corporate entities’ financial position and results of operations
  • Provide technical expertise and financial advice to executive, board and other staff members
  • Develop, implement and maintain financial policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans
  • Assess the technology needs of the Corporation and assist re: new systems to address the needs of its various businesses, addressing growth for both the short and long-term
  • Monitor trends and regulations to ensure appropriate reporting and compliance
  • Develop and oversee an accounting team capable of completing initiatives and discharging responsibilities effectively and efficiently
  • Review and certify managed property annual audits
  • Monitor the invested funds of the organizations and participate with the Board’s Investment Oversight Committee
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

 MCNR RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Prepare and review transactions and reports to ensure adequate, timely and accurate presentation of the facility’s general ledger, financial activities and results of operations

·      Prepare journal entries and related reconciliations & work papers necessary for accurate and current general ledger

·      Prepare financial statements and related reports

·      Prepare and maintain necessary information for annual budget, external audits and regulatory cost reports

·      Maintain data and review transactions concerning the facility’s bank accounts

·      Facility accounts payable tasks; including transaction report review & posting, staff oversight, collaboration with department heads, ensuring timely payments, posting accurate timely data to general ledger

·      Conduct internal reviews of financial activities and transactions

·      Oversight of facility finance office functions; ensuring accuracy, timeliness, efficiency and effective operations

·      Record facility cash receipts and perform related tasks/functions

·      Perform tasks related to facility’s patient trust account; including recording transactions in software systems and issuing checks, interaction with patients/other parties and preparing appropriate reports and recordkeeping

·      Perform tasks related to facility’s other checking accounts; including recording transactions in software systems and issuing checks, interaction with patients/other parties and preparing appropriate reports and recordkeeping

·      Perform all other duties as assigned

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY- Includes training, conducting performance reviews, interviewing candidates and making recommendations regarding staff hiring and performance.  Supervises the Director of Accounting, Administrative Assistant, A/R-Bookkeeping Specialist and A/R- Payroll Specialist 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Finance/Accounting at Skilled Nursing Facility environment
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial accounting for a non-profit organization
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity with FASB pronouncements
